I give up trying to understand this. I wouldn't mind the unanswered questions so much if everything hadn't been rushed into without build up the way it was.
Obviously she has a reason that she wants to be married in a hurry. And the reason isn't that she's suddenly discovered a hidden passion for Peridot. It's only been a few pages since the unanswered question came up. I promise that it will eventually make total sense.
Somebody inform her that fairies don't live in deserts. Djinn live in deserts. Fairies live in forests*. This stuff is downright basic, y'know? Must be a ploy.

Hmm, I think the 'Fairy in the Desert' is the key point and the marriage a ploy.
