Not that I know much about the geology of their magical kingdom (I'd guess at it being based on a large Igneous intrusion)... but I take it those are Rubies. I'd hazard a guess that they probably have quite the wealth of gemstones, to the point where such gems are less valuable than they would be in our world... and I'd base that guess on (of all strange things) their royal naming convention.
Either way... that guy is a prince... 3rd as it may be. That amount is probably quite a bit.
